HOW TO JOIN
The process for membership is deliberately quick and simple with a five-stage procedure:
- Potential new members fill in the application form;
- The chair of the Club’s Membership Committee then considers the applicant’s details and candidates are asked to attend an informal interview with a small number of Club members;
- If necessary, nine holes of golf are arranged with the prospective member and other members to establish golfing ability and knowledge of etiquette. Those with a proven golf handicap may skip this stage, while beginners may be asked to commit to a series of lessons;
- Once the candidate’s golfing ability is established, the nomination form is signed by membership committee representatives;
- Finally, the Captains Committee makes the final decision on the application. This whole process may take only a matter of a few days if all goes according to plan.
A successful applicant receives a letter of acceptance and a fees invoice to complete the process. Membership formally begins upon payment of the full amount due. We prorate the subscription for the remaining part of a financial year (to 30 September) on a monthly basis, calculated from the beginning of the month in which a member joins.
BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP
We welcome dozens of new members every year, many already have friends at the Club or have played at IGC several times and see that it is the right time to join. Others will find us via an internet review or someone’s recommendation. We want the Club and the new member to enjoy a long and rewarding relationship.
Our joining process works quickly and efficiently: a short and informal interview takes place and, if needed, there may be some simple follow-ups. The whole process can take only a matter of days – gone are mandatory play-ins that take weeks to organise or a long wait for a decision! We want potential members to ask all the necessary questions and then feel that our welcome is as warm and the array of opportunities for golf, as well as social events, will provide new friends in what is a game – and a club – for life.
